Auth Code Generation for Events and Courses

Authorization codes (also called coupon codes) are used to give access to online courses and assessments which are paid in nature. Instead of directly collecting the payment during the time of subscribing to the course or assessment, an auth code is given out to the user who intends to subscribe. How and when an auth code would be given out to a prosepective user is entirely decided by the provider of the course. This article talks about the generation part of the auth code.

Generate Auth Codes for an online paid course

(If you intend to generate auth codes for an assessment which you intend to sell, skip the first two steps and start from the third)

Courses can be delivered as free or paid. If it is not free then it needs to be delivered as a course session. Read Course Delivery to know more about the different ways to deliver a course and also how you can create a course session. Auth codes can be generated only for a course session.

  • Go to the course session dashboard (Use the menu Course -> Course Sessions and click on the session.

  • Add an event to this course session through which the actual auth codes would be generated. Click on more... and select +Event. If +Event is not visible then click on Settings and enable the Event checkbox. Select the offline mode in the pop up while creating the event.

  • Give a suitable name to the event, specify the event type as Subscription, specify the dates to match with the course session start and end dates, make Access Type as Paid, specify a price and make the Payment mode as Offline. Save the event.

  • Now enable "Auto Subscribe to Course Sessions" using the checkbox available on the right panel. Save and activate the event using the buttons available at the bottom. The Overview tab of the event would now be visible.

  • Go to the Auth Codes tab and click Create Code button. Specify the number of auth codes that you intend to generate in the Auth Code Count field. You can use one auth code for one usage or for multiple usages. Specify the usage count per auth code in the field Usage Count Per Auth Code. Click Save to create the auth codes.

  • Each of these auth codes created can now be used to subsribe to the course session. The course provider would need to send each auth code to any user who intends to subscribe to this paid course.
