Course Upload - Entire Zip file

You can create a zip file with all the lessons arranged in hierarchical format to represent the modules and topics of the course you like to create or update. The lesson files can be in doc, ppt, pdf, swf, docx, pptx, odt, odp formats. The lessons can also accompny their associated video in flv / mp4 formats. To make the zip you need to create a folder on your compute which will represent your course. inside this create one folder each for modules in the course, using exact same name. You can put the sequence (order) of the module by putting sequence number followed by dot in front of the actual module name as the folder name. E.g. to create 3 modules in sequence, one can create folders like

Folders are shown in bold font in all the examples below

courseRoot

----------  1.chapter1

----------  2.chapter2

----------  3.chapter3

To create topics, you can create sub folders within these module folders. Any level of deep hierarchy is supported in the zip.

To create Lessons in any module / topic, create a sub folder named _Lessons (in exact same case) under any folder, and put all you lesson files under it. To control the sequence of the lessons (ordering) put 1. 2. etc in front of the file name of the lessons. Similarly to create Tests in any module / topic, create a sub folder named _Tests (in exact same case) under any folder, and put all the test/survey templates under it. To control the sequence of tests, prefix the file name with sequence numbers 1. , 2. etc

courseRoot

----------  1.chapter1

--------------------------- _Lessons

------------------------------------------ 1.Intro.ppt

------------------------------------------ 2.Essay.doc

--------------------------- _Tests

------------------------------------------ 1.Quiz1.doc

----------  2.chapter2

------------------------------------------ 2

----------  3.chapter3

Video or Audio for a lesson

To add video for any lesson, create a sub folder under the _Lessons folder with name <Lesson name>-Videos and copy the video file (flv or mp4) or the audio file (mp3) in that folder.

E.g.

courseRoot

----------  1.chapter1

--------------------------- _Lessons

------------------------------------------ 1.Intro.ppt

------------------------------------------ Intro-Videos

------------------------------------------------------------ intro.mp4

------------------------------------------ 2.Essay.doc

----------  2.chapter2

------------------------------------------ 2

----------  3.chapter3

Video/Audio for each slide (splitting slides in PDF to individual lessons)

In the previous section we described how to put a video/audio file under a subfolder for a lesson. If you need to add audio/video for each slide in the lesson (e.g. a voice over PPT), the way to do this is very similar to previous section. You will have to place PDF version of the presentation in the _Lessons folder. After that you will have to place a audio or video file corresponding to each slide by naming them as Slide <n>.mp3 or Slide <n>.mp4. E.g. for having 5 slides, you will have Slide 1.mp3, Slide 2.mp3, Slide 3.mp3 etc. Naming convention has to match this format. If the import process finds more than one audio/video file for any lesson which is a PDF , then it will split the PDF into each page (slide) and create a lesson for each page. It will then look for presence of page (or slide) specific numbered audio or video file and link them together. It is not required to have a video or audio for each slide. But the numbering in AV filename must match the corresponding slide number.

------------------------------------------------------------ Slide 2.mp3

------------------------------------------------------------ Slide 3.mp3

------------------------------------------------------------ Slide 5.mp3

Zip them together

Now, to zip the entire course, select all the folders under courseRoot (excluding the root folder itself) and add them all to a single zip file... you can now upload this zip file by going to course editor and dragging/dropping on the Course Content view. Max size of the uploaded zip is 100MB. If you have bigger course, create several zip files (for each module) and upload them one by one.

Uploading the Zip

In the course editor, you can select the course node from the outline, and drag and drop the zip file in the editor's content area. You can also click on Zip icon in the toolbar and select the zip from the dialog.
